National security adviser Jake Sullivan was adamant President Joe Biden remains "dialed in," despite his son Hunter Biden being indicted by special counsel David Weiss on three federal gun-related charges.

Sullivan cited Biden's participation in his daily presidential briefing Friday morning as evidence he is "dialed in on the key issues that we're confronting," domestically amid a historic United Auto Workers strike and internationally before next week's United Nations General Assembly summit.

Biden declined to answer questions after remarks regarding the strike about whether he would pardon Hunter Biden if he is convicted on the charges, which concern misstatements he allegedly made on a federal government form when he bought a Colt Cobra 38SPL revolver in 2018. The younger Biden had previously been provided with the opportunity to enter a pretrial diversion program over a misdemeanor charge with respect to lying on the form.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre repeated that Biden would not pardon or commute the sentence of his son during her own briefing Friday afternoon.

"No," she said. "I'm not going to get into private conversations that the president has with his family."

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will attend next week's U.N. meeting in New York before being hosted by Biden at the White House on Thursday ahead of a potential government shutdown, in part, over Ukraine spending.

"We are always preparing a new military package for Ukraine," Sullivan said Friday.
