The New York Times showed its left-wing bias and its obsession with Donald Trump once again with an article this weekend fact-checking the former president's speech at CPAC. It was a peculiar decision since the newspaper rarely, if ever, fact-checks the speeches of former presidents.
But perhaps the biggest concern is that the publication put far more effort into assessing the honesty of statements by a former president than it ever has for the current one.
CPAC WRAP: DESANTIS STALLED, UKRAINE OPPOSED, AND RECORD POLL VOTE
President Joe Biden lies almost daily. The New York Times seldom acknowledges it, let alone points it out.
Biden is the current occupant of the White House, and, quite frankly, his words are more important than Trump's. At the moment, Trump is merely political entertainment; nothing he says or does has any impact on the executive branch. Biden, on the other hand, leads the country, but don't expect the New York Times to start holding Biden accountable for misinformation.
Consider some of Biden's statements just this week. He claimed to have reduced the deficit. He claimed to have participated in the civil rights movement as a student. Those claims were not truthful.
Last night, Biden's penchant for spreading misinformation was on full display while delivering a speech at the International Association of Fire Fighters Legislative Conference.
"I did all we did, and all the stuff you guys wanted me doing, and some more, and we still cut the deficit in the last two years by $1.7 trillion," Biden said.

It's a claim that Biden has often repeated but has been repeatedly exposed as untrue. Even the Washington Post gave Biden "Three Pinocchios" when he made similar comments last year. Yet, fact-checking from the New York Times on a speech Biden gave yesterday is nowhere to be found. And given the frequency with which Biden and his administration skirt the truth, there are countless other examples.
This isn't to suggest that the New York Times shouldn't fact-check Trump. He is a former president and current candidate, so his statements are fair game. However, holding Biden and Trump accountable are not mutually exclusive feats. The New York Times can do both but chooses not to. If the newspaper had any integrity, it would fact-check Biden with at least as much vigor as it does Trump.
