National Park activities
The National Park Service is hosting various events related to July Fourth, one of which is a family scavenger hunt called Operation Independence.
The purpose of this event, held at the Sylvan Theater (Independence Avenue SW and 15th Street, D.C.), is to teach participants about spying techniques used during the American Revolution.
The NPS is also doing multiple activities at the Jefferson Memorial, including trivia about the nation’s founding, story time based on the history of Independence Day and former President Thomas Jefferson, and a signing of the Declaration of Independence.
Both the scavenger hunt and the Jefferson Memorial events will be conducted from 2-7 p.m.

AMERICAN DREAM SHIFTS FROM POSSESSIONS TO ‘FREEDOM’ AND ‘FAMILY’
Besides these events, Washington, D.C., will be one of many cities across the nation where “Free America” protests to oppose President Donald Trump will take place. It comes just weeks after the “No Kings” protests swept the nation on June 14, which coincided with the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army and the president’s birthday.
This year’s July Fourth also marks the lowest average gas prices across the country since 2021. The nationwide average for a gallon of gas is currently $3.16, which is roughly 30 cents less compared to the same time last year.
