There is no question that one New York City mayoral candidate, if elected, will greatly jeopardize New York’s law enforcement operations and leave the entire population defenseless.
“Zohran Mamdani spent years calling the NYPD racist and a major threat to public safety. New Yorkers aren’t stupid. They know his record. Defunding and dismantling law enforcement has always been central to his radical agenda, and no amount of campaign spin can erase that, Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY), a member of the Congressional Law Enforcement Caucus, told the Washington Examiner.

“The men and women of the NYPD put their lives on the line every day to keep this city safe. They deserve respect and support, not cheap attacks from a self-avowed socialist,” Lawler added.
The representative could not have said it better. Police in New York City are worried their days are going to come to an end, and vulnerable communities in the city have begun to prepare for an uptick in senseless violence.
In the past, Mamdani has described the New York Police Department as “racist, anti-queer & a major threat to public safety,” a police force he would lead as mayor.
When it comes to federal law enforcement, Mamdani has repeatedly said on the campaign trail that he would punish officers who cooperate with federal efforts and has accused them of bringing terror to the community. Mamdani’s words have made it clear that he will not cooperate with federal law enforcement, despite the city’s rampant crime problem.
His words have left many residents hopeless, and the police department on high alert.
“I’ve had guys call me and say, ‘If he wins, I’m quitting.’ It’s just weird that New York City would vote for him. This guy thinks the entire NYPD is racist. I think, right now, the department is more diverse than it ever was before. He’s completely clueless, he’s just going off a narrative that if you hate cops you’re going to get elected,” a 20-year veteran of the NYPD told the New York Post.
The areas of the department that Mamdani plans to keep will still be subject to his radically soft-on-crime agenda. According to Mamdani’s remarks to Politico, his anti-police plans would replace the longtime jobs of heavily trained and specialized officers with teams of social workers and therapists to crack down on violent crime, and leave the population vulnerable to dangerous criminals apprehended by social workers.
For example, Mamdani vowed to disband the NYPD’s Strategic Response Group (The city’s version of a SWAT team), a specially trained team of several hundred officers in the department.
Those comments haven’t sat well with officers.
As of now, 13 police unions in the city have thrown their support behind his opponents. The city’s biggest police union, the Police Benevolent Association, continues to remain silent about the race.
However, regardless of the obvious reason, if the police force refuses to throw its support behind Mamdani, that, unfortunately, might not be enough to stop him from becoming mayor. The candidate actually has overwhelming widespread support.
“I like him bringing resources and finances for a new community safety plan where they will specifically deal with emotionally disturbed people,” said one of his supporters.
Earlier this week, Mamdani received the state’s most important political praise, an endorsement from the current governor.
Before the endorsement from Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-NY) earlier this week, which has since given him a double-digit lead in recent polls, Quinnipiac University published a survey, which showcased Mamdani, who is in a four-way race, with a favorability of 45% among New York’s likely voters.
A MAYOR MAMDANI IS GOING FURTHER RADICALIZE THE LEFT
At this point, it would be surprising if he lost the race, which puts the current police force on high alert as they approach the new left-wing radicalized city leadership.
Mamdani’s rhetoric will certainly lead to more violence, harassment, and division between his supporters and those who disagree with them, and massively inflate the levels of unprecedented crime already seen in the city.
