A West Virginia man is facing no charges after authorities said he acted in self-defense when he shot and killed an armed person in a dispute with the stepfather of his daughter.
The incident occurred Saturday around 9:30 p.m. when police discovered 43-year-old Thomas Green IV had been fatally shot, according to the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office.

His death was a result of a domestic dispute between Green's wife and her child's father, identified as 39-year-old John Hardy.
"Green and his wife had come to Raven Drive to locate her daughter who had lied to her mother about her whereabouts," according to a release from the sheriff's office.
"Green and his wife encountered Mr. Hardy at the location and a verbal altercation broke out in the street between Green, his wife, and Mr. Hardy."
The altercation escalated rapidly, authorities said.
"Investigators reported that as the dispute escalated Mr. Green pulled a handgun on Mr. Hardy and attempted to fire a round when the weapon malfunctioned," the release read.
"Mr. Hardy was also carrying a handgun and produced the weapon once Mr. Green brandished his gun. Multiple rounds were fired by Hardy, striking Mr. Green numerous times."
The wounds were fatal to Green, and Hardy stayed at the scene until authorities arrived and cooperated with them.

"Based on the evidence collected at the scene and statements from all the involved parties, it is believed that Mr. Hardy may have shot Mr. Green in self-defense after Mr. Green initially brandished a firearm," the release read. "At this time, no criminal charges have been filed against Mr. Hardy."
An investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
