Gov. Wes Moore (D-MD) will be an in-person attendee at President Joe Biden‘s White House meeting with Democratic governors Wednesday evening.
An aide to Moore confirmed his attendance to the Washington Examiner Wednesday afternoon. He will join Govs. Andy Beshear (D-KY), Maura Healey (D-MA), Daniel McKee (D-RI), Gavin Newsom (D-CA), J.B. Pritzker (D-IL), and Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI) as in-person attendees.
Govs. Roy Cooper (D-NC) and Phil Murphy (D-NJ) will join the call virtually, according to their offices. The meeting is expected to take place at 6:30 p.m. EDT.
Biden’s meeting comes as part of his personal effort to tamp down on concerns among Democratic lawmakers, donors, and voters about his age and fitness for office following his dismal performance in the first 2024 presidential debate.
The president began working the phones on Tuesday to speak with senior Democratic members of Congress and make his case for remaining the party’s presumptive nominee. As of Wednesday afternoon, Biden had spoken to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE), and Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-SC), with more calls expected throughout the July 4 holiday weekend.
At just 45, and a year and a half into his first gubernatorial term, Moore is widely viewed as a rising star in the Democratic Party.
He was thrust into the national spotlight following the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland, earlier this year and has campaigned heavily for Biden in the subsequent months, including a tour of Wisconsin that concluded this past Sunday.

Furthermore, Moore told CBS Sunday morning that he would not seek the 2024 Democratic nomination and continues to have faith in Biden as the nominee.
“Joe Biden is our nominee. Joe Biden is our leader. And Joe Biden has earned and Joe Biden deserves the confidence, the respect, and frankly, the partnership that we now have to provide to him,” he said in the interview. “So I will be in Chicago. I will probably be supporting the president in Chicago. I will be a member to make sure he gets reelected. So yes, I think that President Biden has earned the respect.”
