Gov. Wes Moore (D-MD) dismissed the idea of replacing President Joe Biden in the 2024 election, insisting that the Democratic Party will keep Biden as its nominee.
Moore was asked about his handling of rebuilding Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge, which some suggest could be “a launching pad” for him to replace Biden as the presidential nominee. The governor, however, insisted he is “full-throated” in his support for the president, saying he is “excited for another four years.”
“I think that President Biden is not just the nominee. President Biden is the best candidate for the presidency and is the reason I’m supporting him and the reason that I look forward to engaging all throughout the campaign season to get him reelected,” Moore said on Fox News’s Fox & Friends.
The question of replacing Biden, 81, has been raised by several people ahead of the 2024 elections, with many citing his age and his approval ratings from voters as detriments to his reelection bid. A poll from earlier this year, conducted among 2,022 registered voters, saw respondents call the Biden administration’s handling of the southern border its biggest failure.

Despite this, many have dismissed the possibility of Biden getting swapped out with another candidate, with MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow arguing Tuesday that “there’s no reason” to think Biden will not be the nominee. Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) has similarly dismissed this notion, arguing that “we’re well past that conversation.”
Besides Moore, another Democratic lawmaker some have floated to step in for Biden is Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA). However, the governor has insisted he will not run for the White House this year, claiming during a debate with Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) that neither of them will be the presidential nominees for their respective parties in 2024.
