Joy Behar and Sunny Hostin pinned blame for the Ohio train derailment in East Palestine on former President Donald Trump on Thursday's episode of The View — and Behar further chastised the residents for voting for him.

"I think this is Donald Trump’s fault," Hostin said.

"It's his fault, and then he shows up," Behar agreed, referencing Trump's recent visit to the afflicted area.

Trump visited East Palestine on Wednesday and is reportedly planning to donate supplies to the community. He also stopped by a local McDonald's, where he interacted with workers and citizens.

Notably, Trump made the appearance before Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and before any plans for a visit from President Joe Biden have been revealed.

Alyssa Farah Griffin told her cohosts that "This is Trump country. He won by 40 points. [Biden] is a president for all Americans, I believe that, but he needs to show that he is."

Behar took the opportunity to chastise East Palestine residents for voting for Trump. "I don’t know why they would ever vote for him. for somebody who—by the way, he placed someone with deep ties to the chemical industry in charge of the EPA's chemical safety office."

"That’s who you voted for in that District," she told residents suffering from the chemicals released during the derailment. "Donald Trump, who reduces all safety. He did."

Sara Haines defended the residents, explaining that "voters saw something on the ground that probably resonates in a way —," but she was cut off by Behar.

"They need to look past the photo-ops of these people and say who is doing the job here," the 80-year-old comedian said.

"It disgusted me," Hostin said of Trump's visit.

"Republicans [are] talking about small government and less regulations—well, this is what happens when you allow companies to regulate themselves," she said at the beginning of the segment.

"When you allow companies to not be good corporate citizens and grade themselves, they give themselves an A every single time," Hostin added. "And these people are going to suffer because of those things that happened."

She further noted that other administrations were not as responsible as they should have been when it comes to chemical safety, but said, "I thought we saw a real shift when it came to deregulation in the Trump administration."

"It seems to me the Republicans are obsessed with the notion of the free market," Behar claimed. "And they don’t like a lot of regulations."

"Because it means profit," Haines said.

"There were very few plane crashes. Thank god," Behar claimed. "And that’s because the industry is highly regulated. We have to pay for regulations and safety standards. Otherwise, where are we? We’ll all go up in flames."

On Thursday, Buttigieg made his way to the Ohio town to survey the effects of the derailment.

"This morning I’m in East Palestine, Ohio, to see the site of the Norfolk Southern derailment, hear updates from investigators, and meet first responders. USDOT will continue its work to ensure safety and accountability," he wrote in a tweet.

Also, on Thursday, the National Transportation Safety Board published its first preliminary report on the derailment.

According to the report, NTSB investigators returned to East Palestine on Feb. 21, where they examined hazardous material tank cars and documented damage, as well as collected evidence for laboratory analysis. Further, they identified the rail car that was suspected to have caused the derailment and examined it.
