


A teenager smuggling at least six illegal immigrants was taken into custody Wednesday after leading Texas Department of Public Safety troopers on a high-speed chase.
The driver, identified as a 16-year-old Laredo native, blew through multiple red lights and a construction zone in Webb County, attempting to evade troopers, according to a release shared by DPS Lt. Chris Olivarez on Monday.

"The driver eventually crashed into a canal, where he bailed out and attempted to evade," the release said.

"He was apprehended and charged with evading arrest and smuggling of persons," it added.

Upon further investigation, six illegal immigrants, including an infant, were discovered.
The illegal immigrants have since been referred to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, according to the release.
