Comedian and media personality Russell Brand is defending recent conversations with conservative commentators, suggesting they are the way to “attack centralized establishment or authoritarian powers.”

In a new video, Brand said he spoke to conservative media hosts, including Fox News’s Tucker Carlson and Greg Gutfeld, as a way to forge “new alliances.”

As a result, the comedian said he was inspired by how much on which they can agree.

“[We] are absolutely disenchanted with establishment power, whether it is on the Left or the Right, but neither of those terms mean anything anymore,” Brand said. “The authority and government power have been co-opted by financial interest to such a degree that no one is voting for anything meaningful anymore.”

Brand blasted those who have criticized his willingness to have such conversations as voices that “support establishment power” instead of “individual and community freedom.”

Despite Brand admitting that he belongs to “what you might call the cultural Left,” he has been known to be critical of mandates and liberal media.

Earlier this month, Brand blasted MSNBC as "propagandist nutcrackery" for its biases during an episode of Real Time with Bill Maher.
