White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre will hold a press briefing this afternoon after House members ousted Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) as speaker on Tuesday.

Following the historic move, which marked the first speaker in history removed from the job by a vote of the House, the press secretary said President Joe Biden urged members to elect a speaker quickly, with the election expected to take place next week. McCarthy announced he would not run for speaker again after the House booted him.
