


The Senate Budget Committee is holding a hearing on House Republicans' debt ceiling plan that they passed on April 26.
The House Republicans' debt ceiling plan raises the debt limit and cuts spending. It was largely passed along party lines in a 217-215 vote, with four Republicans voting against the measure.

Democrats have slammed the GOP debt ceiling plan as the "Default on America Act." The hearing, which is titled "The Default on America Act: Blackmail, Brinkmanship, and Billionaire Backroom Deals," will hear testimony from Chief Economist Mark Zandi, President of the Environmental Defense Fund Fred Krupp, and president and CEO of the Solar Energy Industries Association Abigail Ross Hopper.
