Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) will speak at events across South Carolina on Wednesday, the latest stop on his book tour following a trip to Washington, D.C.

DeSantis will speak to attendees at the North Charleston Coliseum Montague Terrace about his book, The Courage to Be Free: Florida’s Blueprint for America’s Revival. Then, he and his wife will head to the Summerville Country Club before attending an event in Spartanburg.

This is DeSantis's first visit to South Carolina, an early battleground state for 2024 GOP presidential hopefuls. Former Gov. Nikki Haley (R-SC), who has announced her campaign, and Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), who has not announced a campaign but created an exploratory committee, have made trips to the state, as well as former President Donald Trump, who is the emerging GOP nominee frontrunner.

DeSantis left Washington, D.C., on Tuesday after meeting with GOP lawmakers and donors at the Heritage Foundation, likely as a way to garner Republican support should he enter the 2024 race. After meeting with the governor, however, Rep. Lance Gooden (R-TX) surprised many by throwing his weight behind Trump.

However, DeSantis did secure an endorsement from Rep. Laurel Lee (R-FL), marking his first congressional endorsement from his state. Outside of Florida, DeSantis has won the endorsement of just two other representatives and no senators.
