The rule change “will make screening easier for passengers, improve traveler satisfaction, and reduce wait times,” the Department of Homeland Security said. The no-shoes policy was instituted in 2006, five years after “shoe bomber” Richard Reid unsuccessfully tried to blow up a flight from Paris to Miami.
Noem will deliver the press conference at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, starting at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
