Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) will address Californians at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday as the standoff between the governor and the Trump administration over the Los Angeles riots continues to simmer.
Newsom announced the address Tuesday evening, “in response to President Trump’s assault on democracy and the President’s illegal militarization of Los Angeles.”

The address comes just hours after a federal judge declined to block Trump’s deployment of the National Guard and Marines to Los Angeles.
After protests in the city turned violent against federal immigration officers conducting raids, Trump ordered the National Guard to Los Angeles over the weekend, the first time it was deployed without a governor’s consent since 1965. Trump also sent Marines to the city on Monday for additional support.
