House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) won the vote of the House Republican conference on Wednesday over Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), but several Republicans have said they will not support Scalise for speaker in a vote on the House floor.
The lower chamber of Congress has been without a House speaker since last week, when Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) was ousted from the speakership in a vote that saw eight Republicans join all Democrats. Until a new speaker is elected, the House is unable to do any legislative activity.
