Vice President Kamala Harris and second gentleman Doug Emhoff are commemorating the Oct. 7 attacks.

The ceremony is set to begin at 4 p.m. ET.

“Vice President Harris and the Second Gentleman Deliver Remarks to mark one year since Hamas’s brutal October 7, 2023 terrorist attacks. They will plant a memorial tree on the grounds of the Vice President’s Residence in honor of the victims,” the White House said.

On the morning of Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas and allied militants stormed across the Israeli border by land, sea, and air, killing almost 1,200 Israelis on the deadliest day in the country’s history. Most civilians were killed in border villages or at the Re’im music festival. The massacres triggered the largest regional war involving Israel since the 1973 Yom Kippur War.
