Congress will honor the 13 service members killed during a suicide bombing attack at Abbey Gate near Kabul’s airport in August 2021.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) will award the Congressional Gold Medal to the family members of the service members who died during the attack.

The ceremony, which highlights the United States’s disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan, will take place just hours before the first presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump.

On Sunday, House Republicans released a 350-page report accusing Biden of rushing the Afghanistan withdrawal preparations.
