


Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser is holding a press conference updating the public on rescue efforts after a military helicopter collided with a civilian airliner above the Potomac River.
“Tonight, as our first responders continue their efforts, we are sending our love and prayers to the families, loved ones, and communities who are experiencing loss during this terrible tragedy. We will provide our next briefing at 7:30AM at DCA. It will be live on this account,” she said in a post on X.
Bowser gave her first press conference alongside Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy shortly before 1 a.m.

American Airlines Flight 5342 from Wichita, Kansas, collided with a helicopter, which the Federal Aviation Administration revealed was a military Black Hawk Sikorsky H-60. The airliner had 64 people on board while the helicopter had three. So far, over 30 bodies have been recovered with no survivors.
