The Maui wildfires, which began on Aug. 8, have been mostly contained, but the disaster left behind devastation across the island, including in Lahaina, where most of the town was completely damaged or destroyed by the fires. With 2,170 acres burned, the Lahaina fire is about 90% contained, according to Maui County.
Biden announced $95 million through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law on Wednesday to go toward hardening the power grid and helping the state withstand future storms.
Hurricane Idalia is the first major storm to make landfall in Florida's Big Bend region since 1950, when Hurricane Easy struck the area. The storm is expected to affect 46 counties in Florida along its Gulf Coast, and evacuation orders have been recommended in 23 counties.
