The Washington Examiner's Kaylee McGhee White said President Joe Biden appears to be preoccupied as Ohio deals with a train derailment that left hazardous chemicals spilled in East Palestine.

"It certainly seems like Biden is a lot more interested in pushing his own agenda and potential reelection campaign than he is in dealing with the crises that have occurred under his administration’s watch," she told Fox News host Neil Cavuto.

"This whole thing, the whole response from his administration to the East Palestine train derailment, has been after the fact. A sort of retroactive, damage-control response," she added.

White also noted, "Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg took 10 days to even acknowledge the derailment and only visited the site of the derailment after he received a lot of pushback from the media."

"From an optics perspective," she explained, "they've really dropped the ball on this, and it's going to be interesting to see whether they recover it at all."

White told Cavuto that Biden should make the trip to Ohio, "especially if he hopes to run again for president in 2024."

"This would be an excellent opportunity to visit people who are really suffering and who need some encouragement from the president right now."

She added that many residents of East Palestine are low-income, claiming that "they are completely dependent on the Biden administration's response to this crisis."

According to White, they don't have the fiscal flexibility to leave their homes and jobs while the situation is evaluated.
