A Disney Channel star used his platform at Saturday's 2023 Kids' Choice Awards to encourage young viewers to embrace Jesus Christ.
While accepting the award for "Favorite Male TV Star" for a kids show, Joshua Bassett said, "I'd love to thank my savior, Jesus Christ." The comment came after first thanking his fans and the cast and crew of his show.

Bassett is one of the stars of Disney's High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. Pop star Olivia Rodrigo starred opposite the actor in the first several seasons, but she won't be a part of the fourth season.
"I want to say something. There are a lot of people here who are burdened, brokenhearted, and have been beaten down by life," Bassett told the audience.
"I'm here to tell you — for those of you who've lost hope, there's a very real God who loves you more than you will ever possibly know," he assured them.
"His promise is peace and my testimony is my healing," Bassett further proclaimed.

"Remember: forgive quickly, love freely, and walk courageously," he concluded. "Love always wins in the end."
Last month, Bassett faced criticism after sharing a video of his baptism on Twitter. Some social media users attacked the star's seemingly newfound Christianity as well as the fact that he was publicly sharing it.
