The Washington Examiner’s Tiana Lowe Doescher suggested that Jeff Bezos’s changes to the Washington Post, including dropping its “leftist dogma,” could be a bid to boost its readership.

Bezos, the owner of the Washington Post, revealed on X that the paper would no longer publish opinion editorials opposing “personal liberties” or “free markets ” and would instead focus on writing “every day in support and defense” of them. The change, part of the “vibe shift” taking place across the nation, is a stark contrast to how people on “the Left” have ditched any notion of free speech or personal liberties being good.

“Bezos is a money man. He also sees what the future holds,” Doescher, a commentary writer for the Washington Examiner, explained on Fox News’s The Will Cain Show. “He sees that it’s bad business to continue trying to do what The New York Times has essentially had total domain over. Just remember Will: WaPo is on track for $100 million dollar net losses every single year. So right now, if the same thing isn’t working, if the same leftist dogma and groupthink isn’t working, why not try something new?”

Doescher added that many billionaires involved in technology, such as Bezos, X owner Elon Musk, and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, were all part of the “Obama-era idealism” in celebrating technology and what it can accomplish for humanity. However, these same billionaires were only rewarded with an “eat the rich” mentality among the public and a lack of growth in business despite creating “millions of jobs.”

Additionally, Doescher cited how the Washington Post’s audience was “decimated” during former President Joe Biden‘s leadership, dropping from 22 million daily users to just 2.5 million daily users.

“And so I think Trump, and this new era, have given someone like Bezos permission to channel an energy that, let’s be real, he’s a capitalist, he knows that this stuff hasn’t been winning,” Doescher said. “He thought he could be empathetic, and he thought he could guide the culture, and he thought he could learn from the Left, and the Left didn’t want to teach anyone. They wanted to control thought.”

TRUMP ADMINISTRATION BOOSTS NEWSMAX IN DEBUT SHAKE-UP OF PRESS ROTATION

Bezos, along with Musk and Zuckerberg, was among those in attendance at President Donald Trump’s inauguration. Prior to the 2024 election, the Washington Post opted not to issue a presidential endorsement, even though one for then-Vice President Kamala Harris was already in the works before Bezos pulled the plug.

Musk, a key ally of Trump, applauded Bezos’s decision to champion personal liberties and free markets, writing “bravo” on X regarding Bezos’s decision.
