Washington Examiner investigative reporter Sarah Bedford said Tuesday night that the Southern border of the United States is an "unmitigated disaster" for the Biden administration and is something more people in the United States are acknowledging.
Bedford appeared on Fox News's Fox News at Night and discussed a report that the Islamic State was using a sympathizer's smuggling ring to bring ISIS members through the Southern border and into the United States. About illegal crossings at the border, Bedford claimed that many people are able to enter due to "inadequate resources" for those who are in charge of securing the border.

"There is a complete lack of focus and commitment to securing the border," said Bedford. "It’s been an unmitigated disaster for the Biden administration. Even now, a majority of independents and Democrats agree."
President Joe Biden has been greatly criticized for how his administration has handled the influx of migrants, with a recent poll stating that 48% of likely U.S. voters rated Biden as poor on “handling issues related to immigration," against 33% of voters who gave Biden a “good or excellent” rating on immigration.
Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) said last week that he wants to hold Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas accountable, arguing that the secretary has been lying about security along the southern border and was not going to just "give him a blank check." Roy added that he would be giving funding to DHS but would "attach strings" to the funding to tell Mayorkas to "do your job."
U.S. Customs and Border Protection statistics released earlier this month revealed that Border Patrol agents arrested 132,652 immigrants between the ports of entry in July, a 33% increase from the previous month. In June, a total of 99,545 arrests were made.

Biden administration officials at the DHS have defended the increase, as it was down 27% from last July.
The president has also faced criticism over his age, as he is currently 80 years old and is running for reelection in the 2024 presidential race. When asked about a poll showing that 69% of respondents believe he is too old for the role of president, Bedford stated that seemed "to be the only thing uniting the country right now" and that most people, regardless of political affiliation, believe Biden is not fit to run for office again.
