The Washington Examiner's Byron York says the "arrogance" of Hunter Biden's defense team was present among its members in how they believed they were able to "threaten" the U.S. Department of Justice.

York's statement on the legal investigations into President Joe Biden's son comes as Republican lawmakers subpoenaed four officials at the FBI and IRS on Monday to appear before Congress, stating they believe the officials had information about a critical meeting last year attended by special counsel David Weiss, the lead prosecutor in Hunter Biden's case. Prior to last month, when a pair of whistleblowers from the IRS testified to House Republicans, it seemed that Hunter Biden's defense team was confident in its "dealing with the Justice Department," York said during an appearance on Fox News's America Reports.

"They felt confident they could actually threaten the Justice Department, and apparently it was working," said York. "We've had other reports that the Justice Department was ready to let Hunter Biden off scot-free, no charges, no nothing. And it was only after a couple of IRS whistleblowers emerged speaking to House Republicans, getting their story out, accusing the Justice Department of special treatment in the Hunter Biden case that the Justice Department then began to back up and ended up charging two minor charges against Hunter Biden."

The segment also focused on the topic of legacy media outlets acknowledging Hunter Biden's foreign business activity, with a clip showing a CNN host stating that "Trump was right" on Trump's claim that Hunter Biden was making money from China. When asked what was happening with the legacy media, York stated that the conclusion to this story was "inescapable" regarding some of the story's sources.

"They were listed in the plea agreement that ended up not going through, the one that the Justice Department wouldn't release until days after it happened," said York. "Still, you saw the statement of facts in the plea agreement showing that Hunter Biden had gotten a lot of money from those foreign countries. So it’s really hard to deny any longer that Hunter Biden was making a lot of money from China, which his father denied, or that Joe Biden talked to Hunter Biden and his business associates about business matters which now appears to be pretty clearly true based on testimony from the whistleblowers."

House Republicans have been working for months to investigate the president's son and the business deals he made with foreign nations, as well as how involved Hunter Biden's father, who was vice president at the time, was with the deals. Recently, Rep. James Comer (R-KY) claimed that then-Vice President Joe Biden used multiple names and aliases when emailing his son, including “Robin Ware,” “Robert L. Peters,” and “JRB Ware.”

On Sunday, Comer stated that additional details regarding emails on Hunter Biden would be given to the House Oversight Committee sometime this week, with Wednesday being the deadline. The Republican lawmaker also stated that he is "headed to court" to receive access to more bank records that will tell "a big story" on what involvement Hunter Biden's father had with his son's business schemes.

Biden refused to comment on the investigation into his son's business dealings on Friday, stating that he has "no comment on any investigation that’s going on." He also said any investigations were "up to the Justice Department."
