NextImg:Walmart’s Pride apparel mocked as ‘cringe’ in viral TikTok ahead of Pride Month

A gay TikTok user has sparked a viral debate after posting a video slamming Walmart’s Pride Month merchandise, calling the apparel so cringeworthy it made her want to “quit being gay.”

The creator, who goes by @bracefacepineapple, posted the clip on Saturday. The TikTok video has since racked up over 5 million views.

“I’m not even going to lie to y’all,” she said in the video, “Walmart is making me not even want to be gay no more.”

The video showcases several of Walmart’s Pride-themed shirts, including a navy blue one that reads “¿Homo estás?”—a pun on the Spanish phrase “¿Cómo estás?” (“How are you?”), with “homo” written in rainbow lettering.

Another lilac shirt features the word “lesbian” with the letters “b” and “i” replaced by a cartoon bee in the colors of the lesbian flag. Other designs include a white T-shirt with a checklist marked “cute, gay, and ready to slay” and a blue shirt reading “bi babe” in the pink, blue, and purple of the bisexual flag.

“Let’s just skip Pride Month altogether,” she jokes at the end of the video.

Despite having under 1,000 followers, her sharp commentary went viral, sparking more than 5,000 comments. Many viewers found the shirts laughable, with one writing, “Homo estás is killing meee,” and another joking, “I’m less bien after seeing that shirt.”

Some questioned whether the designs were supportive or unintentionally offensive.

“Is this … a hate crime?” one user quipped.

Walmart currently offers more than 130 Pride-themed items on its website, including slogans like “Straight Outta the Closet” and “Lez is More.”

The reaction to Walmart’s merchandise comes as major retailers have reevaluated their approach to Pride and diversity initiatives.

GIVE TRUMP’S ECONOMIC REFORMS A CHANCE

Target has been scaling back its Pride and DEI events. The store announced in 2024 that it planned to reduce its Pride Month offerings last year. This marked a shift from previous years, when the collection was widely distributed across nearly all 2,000 locations.

Target is also withdrawing from this year’s Twin Cities Pride celebration, a major change for the Minneapolis-based retailer. The move follows growing political pressure and backlash from conservative activists and the White House over corporate diversity, equity, and inclusion programs.
