The 6-year-old who shot his first grade teacher in January at a school in Virginia bragged about the incident, according to unsealed search warrants.

The boy was being restrained by a school employee when he allegedly said, "I shot that b**** dead" and took credit for the shooting, per CBS News.

"I did it," the boy said, according to the documents. "I got my mom's gun last night."

The boy is accused of shooting Abigail Zwerner, 25, on Jan. 6, 2023, at Richneck Elementary School. Zwerner was injured in the shooting but escorted the other children out of the classroom. The teacher is reportedly not returning to teach at the school in the fall.

Zwerner is suing the school district for $40 million after the school reportedly had warnings about the child having his mother's gun but failed to take action before the teacher was shot. She also alleges that there were warning signs about the boy prior to the shooting in January.

Deja Taylor, the mother of the boy who shot Zwerner, was indicted on state charges for the shooting in April and on federal charges in June. The federal charges include illegally using drugs while owning a firearm and making a false statement when she purchased the gun.

Taylor has expressed regret for the incident and has taken responsibility for her child's actions.

"That is my son, so I am, as a parent, obviously, willing to take responsibility for him because he can’t take responsibility for himself,” Taylor said in an interview with ABC's Good Morning America in May.
