NextImg:Venture capitalist calls for more donations to Christie and Pence for 2024 run

Venture capitalist Jason Calacanis told his followers on X, formerly known as Twitter, to contribute to Chris Christie's and Mike Pence's presidential campaigns.

Calacanis co-hosts the All In podcast with Chamath Palihapitiya, David Sacks, and David Friedberg as a resident Left representative. As a former technology journalist, Calacanis has personally known X owner Elon Musk for decades and supported Musk during his acquisition of what was then Twitter, even offering help as CEO. He voted for President Joe Biden in 2020 and likely voted for Hilary Clinton in 2016, as he publicly supported Michael Bloomberg's campaign.

UP FOR DEBATE: TRUMP, DESANTIS, AND 2024 GOP HOPEFULS' STANCES ON ABORTION

"Trump created this culture of violence ... and he stokes violence to this day," Calacanis posted Wednesday, along with a link to a news story about the FBI shooting and killing a man over his threats to Biden. "The GOP needs to part ways now ... We should all donate to the Republican POTUS candidates that denounce him, like Chris Christie and Mike Pence."

The former governor of New Jersey has met the fundraising threshold to qualify for the primary debate, slated for Aug. 23 in Milwaukee. Meanwhile, the former vice president has not quite reached 40,000 individual donors but expects to this week.

So far, former President Donald Trump, Gov. Doug Burgum (R-ND), Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), and former Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley have qualified for the first debate. A subsequent debate is set for about a month afterward.

Former Texas Rep. Will Hurd, Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, political commentator Larry Elder, and businessman Perry Johnson are also in the race to win the GOP presidential nomination but have yet to qualify for the first debate.

Biden is facing primary challenges from environmental lawyer Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and author Marianne Williamson in his 2024 bid for reelection. There are 13 Republican candidates competing for the party's nomination.
