Vice President JD Vance excoriated left-wing extremists for encouraging political violence after one person was killed at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility on Wednesday morning in Dallas.
“What we know is that in Dallas, Texas, an ICE facility, an Immigrations and Customs Enforcement facility, was opened fire upon by a violent left-wing extremist, a person who wrote anti-ICE messaging on their bullets,” Vance said during an appearance on Wednesday afternoon in Concord, North Carolina.

“And there’s some evidence that we have that’s not yet public, but we know this person was politically motivated,” he added. “They were politically motivated to go after law enforcement.”
Vance’s appearance in North Carolina largely focused on the Trump administration’s public support of federal and state law enforcement in the wake of the killings of conservative activist Charlie Kirk in Utah and Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska in North Carolina.
“You don’t have to agree with my immigration policies,” Vance said. “You don’t have to agree with Donald Trump’s immigration policies. But if your political rhetoric encourages violence against our law enforcement, you can go straight to hell.”
The vice president also expressed some sympathy for the victims who were in the U.S. illegally.
“It looks like some of the detainees, in other words, some of the potential illegal aliens were some of those were affected,” Vance said. “Look, just because we don’t support illegal aliens, we don’t want them to be executed by violent assassins engaged in political violence, either.”
The brutal death of Zarutska has become a key issue in the marquee Senate battle in North Carolina between Republican Michael Whatley and former Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper, with Vance suggesting that the National Guard could become involved.
“If the mayor of Charlotte and the governor of North Carolina asked for our help, we would absolutely send it,” Vance said when asked by a reporter. “Because we believe in helping people, regardless of whether they’re Democrats or Republicans.”
The Trump administration has sent National Guard troops to take over the District of Columbia’s police force and sent troops to Memphis, Tennessee, at the behest of Gov. Bill Lee (R-TN).

The vice president called on Democrats to condemn political rhetoric and protests that could incite more violence against law enforcement.
“Political violence has gotten out of control in this country,” Vance said. “We got to stop it. We got to condemn it. And that starts, unfortunately, at the very top of the Democratic Party. If you want to stop political violence, stop attacking our law enforcement as the Gestapo. If you want to stop political violence, stop telling your supporters that everybody who disagrees with you is a Nazi. If you want to stop political violence, look in the mirror.”
