R&B superstar Usher met with Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA) on Wednesday, where the two discussed screening for Type 1 diabetes.

The musician’s visit to the Capitol to talk about diabetes hits close to home as his child was diagnosed with the disease in 2014. In the 10 years that have passed, he has become an advocate for diabetes screenings, citing how these can help people learn about their diagnosis sooner.

“I’m so glad @Usher could stop by my office to talk about the importance of screening for Type 1 diabetes,” Warnock wrote on X. “Whether pushing to strengthen access to screening or to lower the exorbitant costs of insulin, I won’t stop fighting for people with diabetes in Georgia & across the nation.”

Last year, Usher became a spokesperson for 1 Pledge Campaign, an initiative from pharmaceutical giant Sanofi that seeks to raise awareness about the use of early antibody testing for Type 1 diabetes.

Usher’s visit to the Capitol comes just a week after rapper 50 Cent appeared at the Capitol himself. The rapper made the visit to discuss the alcohol business and to increase minority representation in the spirits industry.

Earlier this year, Usher performed at Super Bowl LVIII, which he described as “an honor.” It was also his second appearance after 2011.
