


One year after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, support for Ukraine in the United States has become increasingly split along party lines.
A recent poll by Fox News found large differences in public opinion regarding the war, split between the Republicans and the Democrats. The poll found that 66% of Democrats believe the U.S. should fully support Ukraine until its hypothetical victory, while 61% of Republicans believe there should be a time frame on U.S. support. Among independents, 49% support a time limit, and 45% support backing Ukraine until victory.

The total is split around half in terms of all Americans, as 50% of those polled said the U.S. should support Ukraine for as long as it takes, while 46% support a time frame.
President Joe Biden's handling of the war is likewise split along party lines. Seventy-four percent of Democrats approve of Biden's handling of the war, compared to just 24% of Republicans and 41% of independents. Overall, 48% approve of his handling of the war, the highest percentage yet, as opposed to 49% who disapprove.

While support for Ukraine among Republican leadership in Congress remains high, as Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) pointed out, a growing number of Republican representatives have grown increasingly critical of aid to the country. Popular conservative pundits such as Tucker Carlson have also roundly criticized the Ukrainian government and U.S. aid.
The Fox News poll was conducted from Sunday to Wednesday under the joint direction of Beacon Research and Shaw & Company Research, with 1,006 registered voters by phone. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
