Uproar at Fauci hearing as Marjorie Taylor Greene refuses to call him ‘doctor’ - Washington Examiner

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) caused an uproar by refusing to address Dr. Anthony Fauci with the title of “doctor” during his explosive testimony before the House Oversight Committee on Monday.
Greene repeatedly referred to the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases as “Mr. Fauci” despite bipartisan scolding.
“That man does not deserve to have a license,” Greene said of Fauci. “As a matter of fact, it should be revoked, and he belongs in prison.”
Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic Chairman Brad Wenstrup (R-OH), a physician himself, censured Greene following the comment regarding the revocation of Fauci’s medical license.
Greene, who has clashed with other Republican members of the subcommittee regarding her views on the COVID-19 vaccines and other controversial topics, also referenced Fauci’s funding of brutal experiments on beagle puppies.
“As a dog lover, I want to tell you this is disgusting and evil, what you signed off on in these experiments that happen to beagles, paid for by the American taxpayer,” Greene said. “The type of science that you are representing, Mr. Fauci, is abhorrent, and it needs to stop.”
Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY) also referenced beagle experiments funded by NIAID.
“I’m very troubled by the cruel, horrific animal research that has been done on U.S. land and in foreign laboratories, and taxpayers are footing the bill for billions of dollars,” Malliotakis said. “These beagle puppies have their throat slit. They’re being injected with ticks. They are murdered after just a few months.”
The digressions into animal research were criticized by Democratic members for their lack of relevance to COVID-19 policy or origins.
Greene also said that Fauci should be prosecuted under “crimes against humanity” for his role in the national lockdown policies during the Trump administration and for his advocacy of the COVID-19 vaccines.
“We should be recommending you to be prosecuted. We should be writing a criminal referral because you should be prosecuted for crimes against humanity. You belong in prison,” Greene said.
“Is this what we have become?” Rep. Kweisi Mfume (D-MD) asked. “Is this what we have devolved into?”
Fauci served as the director of NIAID for nearly 40 years and earned his medical degree from Cornell University. He began working for the National Institutes of Health in 1968.
The hearing was the first public appearance for Fauci since his retirement from public service in December 2022.
