Two-thirds of registered voters in swing states rejected President Joe Biden’s climate policy restrictions on appliances even if they resulted in a reduction in energy costs for consumers, according to a new poll from CRC Research.
Only 28% of voters in the poll supported government restrictions on appliances, and 8% were unsure or refused to answer, according to the results shared exclusively with the Washington Examiner. On the other hand, 65% of those polled supported consumers making the decisions for themselves.
The poll involved 2,800 registered voters, comprised of 37% identifying as Democrat, 34% Republican, and 29% independent in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Nevada, North Carolina, and Wisconsin.
Republicans supported consumer appliance choice the most at 79%, and self-identified liberals the least at 45%.
“This is yet another reminder that consumers do not want Gavin Newsom, Joe Biden, or any other governmental official banning or mandating certain products based on ideology,” O.H. Skinner, executive director of Alliance for Consumers, said.
Alliance for Consumers is a nonprofit organization “dedicated to reforming how we protect consumers by promoting best practices that advance the interests of everyday consumers in public and private consumer enforcement actions.”
“Consumers want choices,” Skinner said. “They want to be able to buy what they need for their family. They don’t want to be forced into Progressive Lifestyle Choices just because that matches some ideological goal of a far Left official.”
A smaller proportion of those polled, 51%, were less likely to support federal rules banning appliances “if the ban would result in savings for consumers on energy costs and be better for the environment.”

The poll followed several actions from the Biden administration that will lead to some appliances coming off the market due to new energy and climate restrictions.
However, those restrictions, while they may offer climate benefits, could restrict consumer choice and lead to higher appliance costs. The Biden administration’s climate policy spurred outrage over claims they could ban gas stoves but later reversed course with new standards that kept 97% of them.
