People booed and Tucker Carlson laughed as former Vice President Mike Pence expressed his support for sending weapons and money to Ukraine as it continues to fend off a Russian invasion.
Carlson interviewed Pence onstage at the Family Leadership Summit in Iowa on Friday and pressed the former vice president about his support for U.S. assistance to Ukraine.
“I believe that it is in the interest of the United States of America to continue to give the Ukrainian military the resources that they need to repel the Russian invasion and restore their sovereignty,” Pence said.
Carlson, a critic of U.S. aid to Ukraine, interrupted Pence’s response and pushed back, asking why the U.S. should support Ukraine when American cities have fallen by the wayside under the current administration.
“You are distressed the Ukrainians don’t have enough American tanks. Every city in the United States has become much worse in the last three years. Where’s the concern for the United States in that?” Tucker responded.
Pence quipped that he had “heard that routine” of saying America should fix itself up before helping Ukraine from Carlson before and that it’s “not my concern.”

“Anybody that says that we can’t be the leader of the free world and solve our problems at home has a pretty small view of the greatest nation on earth,” he said. “We can do both.”
Pence has been the most outspoken GOP presidential candidate in support of assisting Ukraine, while the other two front-runners, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) and former President Donald Trump, have been vocally critical of America sending aid to Ukraine.
