President Donald Trump is scheduled to speak with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday about a deal to keep TikTok operational in the U.S.
Trump mentioned on Thursday that the U.S. and China were close to a deal regarding the social media platform. The Associated Press reported that the two leaders are also expected to discuss resolutions to the trade war between the two countries.

“I’m speaking with President Xi, as you know, on Friday, having to do with TikTok and also trade,” Trump said on Thursday. “And we’re very close to deals on all of it.”
It will be the second known call between the two leaders since Trump began his second term. The call is reportedly set for 9 a.m. EST.
Congress originally passed a law during the Biden administration in 2024 that required TikTok to divest from ByteDance, a Chinese tech company headquartered in Beijing. The company has caused national security concerns in the U.S., with experts claiming that the company skirts laws to acquire personal information accessible by the Chinese government. If TikTok did not divest from ByteDance, it was supposed to be banned in the U.S. However, the Trump administration has extended the deadline to do so multiple times.

Friday’s conversation between Trump and Xi comes after the announcement of an executive order on Tuesday, which again delayed banning TikTok in the U.S. until Dec. 16, 2025. Trump teased a deal with China regarding TikTok the day he announced the directive.
“We have a deal on TikTok. I’ve reached a deal with China. I’m going to speak to President Xi on Friday to confirm everything up,” Trump said. “We made a very good, great deal, and I hope good for both countries. But a very different deal than they’ve made in the past.”
