Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) became the subject of a musical ad campaign launched by former President Donald Trump's super PAC on Friday, tuned to the song "Old MacDonald Had a Farm."
Titled "Old DeSantis," the campaign ad launched by Make America Great Again Inc. highlights the Florida governor's history of supporting sales taxes and claims that, if president, he will "make you pay more."

"Ron 'DeSalesTax' had a plan ... to make you pay more. With a sales tax here and a sales tax there, here a tax, there a tax, everywhere a sales tax," the ad jingle says, showing pictures of meat, to-go foods, eggs, and machinery.
The ad claims DeSantis pushed for a 23% national sales tax "where the middle class pays more." It refers to the Fair Tax Act, a measure that DeSantis co-sponsored in 2013, 2015, and 2017 while serving in the House of Representatives — an action used against him by his opponents when he was running for governor in 2018.
While the Fair Tax Act would raise national sales taxes, the "fair tax" would also eliminate other federal taxes. It has been proposed for over two decades in Congress, earning support from several other Republicans, such as former Vice President Mike Pence and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley.
DeSantis, who has not entered the race, has not called for the "fair tax" since taking office as governor.
The ad also claims DeSantis's tax hikes would make "Biden's inflation hit even harder."
"We can't afford Ron 'DeSalesTax.' Fortunately, we have a better choice," the ad says. "President Trump passed massive tax cuts, lowering tax rates for everyone. President Trump cut taxes."
DeSantis is the focus of massive mudslinging waged by Trump ever since the former president announced he was running for president in November after the midterm elections, in which DeSantis and Florida Republicans achieved significant victories.
The Florida governor is widely expected to file paperwork with the Federal Election Commission next week ahead of a meeting with GOP donors in Miami.
DeSantis is expected to be Trump's top opponent. Trump, however, made it clear on Friday that he is not phased by DeSantis challenging him for the Republican presidential nomination.

On Friday following the ad's release, Trump posted on Truth Social that DeSantis was "UNELECTABLE."
"Sorry, but Ron DeSanctimonious is UNELECTABLE, and everyone knows why," Trump said. "I’m leading Biden by 11 Points. Ran twice, won twice, and did much better the second time."
