Former President Donald Trump castigated Gov. Kim Reynolds (R-IA) over her endorsement of Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), one of his top rivals in the 2024 presidential primary, in a video released on Tuesday.
"Kim Reynolds of Iowa has gone from a popular governor to the most unpopular governor in the entire United States of America. Not an easy feat," Trump said in the video. "Her endorsement of Ron DeSanctimonious, who is 50 points down to me in the polls, has given him exactly zero bounce. He's a wounded bird falling violently from the sky."

According to a RealClearPolitics poll average, DeSantis is trailing the former president by roughly 45 percentage points, 59.4% to 14%. An Iowa State University/Civiqs poll of likely Iowa caucuses GOP attendees released last week showed Trump besting the Florida governor 54% to 18%, while former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley was at 12%.
Reynolds gave her endorsement to DeSantis earlier this month, a move that he wasted no time in touting to Iowa voters through a 30-second advertisement titled "Endorsement." Trump had feuded with Reynolds over her stance that she would remain neutral in the primary despite appearing at campaign events with DeSantis and his wife, Casey DeSantis.
Trump further mocked the endorsement in his video, alluding to a quid pro quo deal between the two governors. "I wonder what position Kim was promised in order to back someone who is so far down in the polls," he questioned.

The former president then bragged about his administration's record of helping Iowa farmers with ethanol, along with protecting Social Security and Medicare.

"DeSanctimonious and Nikki Haley did absolutely nothing," Trump concluded.
DeSantis and Haley are currently in an escalating skirmish to emerge as the top alternative candidate in the primary race against Trump. The former president, however, has remained the undisputed front-runner to become the GOP's next standard-bearer.
