White House Science and Technology Director Michael Kratsios assured the United States is No. 1 in the world for artificial intelligence.
In the days after President Donald Trump was inaugurated, the Chinese Communist Party unveiled DeepSeek, its own AI model by a company with the same name. This new company has prompted comparisons to American companies, but Kratsios suggested there are none.

“We are No. 1, and we are across the totality of the AI stack. What does that mean? We have the best chips. We have Nvidia, they’re creating the best frontier chips. We have the best models, companies like OpenAI, Grok, and Anthropic; these are the best models in the world. The third layer is application, this is how companies, and governments, and many others actually use those models,” Kratsios said on Fox Business’s Mornings with Maria Bartiromo Tuesday.
These companies benefit from specializing in artificial intelligence. Nvidia, for example, became the second most valuable public company last summer. Estimates point to Nvidia holding as much as 90% of high-end semiconductor chips, and its market capitalization exceeded $3 trillion. Since then, the company has committed to moving semiconductor plants to the U.S.

“Right now, we’re dominant across all three. [Other countries are] trying very hard to catch up, and we need to continue to accelerate our development in AI so we can maintain our leadership position and make sure our partners and allies all across the world are using American AI,” Kratsios said.
Kratsios served in the first Trump administration in the office of the Technology Officer, a position created during the Obama administration.
