President Donald Trump indicated Russian President Vladimir Putin would likely respond to Ukraine‘s surprise drone strike on Russian air bases.
“I just finished speaking, by telephone, with President Vladimir Putin, of Russia,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “The call lasted approximately one hour and 15 minutes. We discussed the attack on Russia’s docked airplanes, by Ukraine, and also various other attacks that have been taking place by both sides. It was a good conversation, but not a conversation that will lead to immediate Peace.”

Putin “did say, and very strongly, that he will have to respond to the recent attack on the airfields,” Trump said.
“We also discussed Iran, and the fact that time is running out on Iran’s decision pertaining to nuclear weapons, which must be made quickly,” the president wrote. “I stated to President Putin that Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon and, on this, I believe that we were in agreement.”
Putin “suggested that he will participate in the discussions with Iran and that he could, perhaps, be helpful in getting this brought to a rapid conclusion,” Trump added.
“It is my opinion that Iran has been [slow-walking] their decision on this very important matter, and we will need a definitive answer in a very short period of time,” he wrote.
Trump is in the middle of negotiations with Iran over a new nuclear agreement, but the two sides remain far apart regarding whether Tehran can enrich uranium. The president has undercut special envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff’s original proposal that permitted uranium enrichment.
Trump’s phone call with Putin is the second one publicly disclosed in recent weeks as the president distances himself from the war between Russia and Ukraine despite his promise during the campaign to stop the conflict on the first day of his second presidency.
UKRAINE TARGETS KERCH BRIDGE CONNECTING RUSSIA AND CRIMEA
Earlier Wednesday, Ukraine’s security services released new video of their “Spider’s Web” drone strikes on the Kremlin’s nuclear-capable bombers at air bases deep inside Russia, including in Siberia, revealing that they used artificial intelligence in the operation.
Ukraine said more than 40 bombers, or about a third of Russia’s strategic bomber fleet, were damaged or destroyed Sunday during the mission, though the Kremlin countered that only several planes were affected.
