NextImg:Trump says CNN initially pitched ‘seated’ debate with Biden - Washington Examiner

Former President Donald Trump claimed that CNN approached him about debating incumbent President Joe Biden with both candidates being seated instead of standing.

Biden announced last month that he would participate in two debates against Trump, one hosted by CNN and the other by ABC News. Trump told the Impaulsive podcast Thursday that he had to insist to the network that both candidates stand for the event, which is slated for June 27.

“On CNN, they wanted it to be seated, which I didn’t like. I said, ‘We should stand,’ and I think we won that point,” Trump said. “But I would have agreed to whatever I had to agree to because they didn’t want to do it.”

Later in the podcast, someone off screen gave podcast host Logan Paul the 10-minute warning. However, Trump brushed off the warning and said to give the interviewers another 20 minutes.

“I’ll be in trouble with my people like Biden says. I don’t have that problem. Well, first of all, he would never — he couldn’t do this interview. Have you asked him questions like this?” Trump said.

Paul and co-host Mike Majak said they hadn’t but signaled they would be willing to host the president.

“You know what chance you have of getting him on? I’d say less than 1%,” Trump said.

Trump went on to discuss his campaign as Paul and Majak took turns asking about his foreign policy. The former president continued to claim that neither the conflict between Ukraine and Russia nor Israel and Hamas would have happened if he were president. He also suggested that the United States avoided “nuclear war” by not electing Hillary Clinton in 2016.

Paul has over 4 million listeners subscribed to his Impaulsive podcast, which has hosted various celebrities. Thursday’s episode was the first time hosting a political candidate, some four months before the 2024 presidential election.

Next month, Trump will be sentenced for his conviction on 34 counts of falsifying business records. Three days later, the Republican Party will have its national convention, at which the former president is presumed to be named the party’s presidential nominee.
