The Trump campaign has debuted its first ad campaign against Vice President Kamala Harris, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, featuring fiery commentary targeting immigration and border policy.

The new 30-second ad, “I Don’t Understand,” tears into Harris’s record on the historic border crisis and labels her as “failed, weak, and dangerously liberal.”

The Trump team has plunged $12 million into airing its inaugural ad on broadcast, cable, and digital mediums in six battleground states: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. The ad was the first since former President Donald Trump won the GOP nomination nearly two weeks ago and since President Joe Biden dropped his 2024 reelection bid and named Harris as his chosen successor.

The ad will start airing Tuesday and attempts to convey to voters that Harris’s blunders at the border are the cause of immigration-related problems within the United States, including violent crime, the tens of thousands of fentanyl-induced deaths each year since 2020, and the release of suspected terrorists into the country from the southern border.

“Under Harris, over 10 million illegally here. A quarter of a million Americans dead from fentanyl. Brutal migrant crimes. And ISIS — now here,” the voiceover states.

Harris is then shown in a 2021 interview with NBC’s Lester Holt, who asked why Harris had not visited the U.S.-Mexico border as the number of illegal immigrants arrested surged in Biden’s first months in office, and she was tapped to address the root causes of people fleeing certain Central American nations.

“I haven’t been to Europe. I mean, I don’t understand the point that you are making,” Harris told Holt.

A spokesman for Harris’s campaign said in a statement Tuesday that the Trump ad was an attempt to distract people from the Republican candidate’s own immigration plans.

“After killing the toughest border deal in decades, Donald Trump is running on his trademark lies because his own record and ‘plans’ are extreme and unpopular,” said Harris campaign spokesman Ammar Moussa. “As a former district attorney, attorney general, and now vice president, Kamala Harris has spent her career taking on and prosecuting violent criminals and making our communities safer. She’ll do the same as president.”
