On Day One of his new administration, President Donald Trump issued a flurry of executive orders. While many dealt with immigration, one focused on clearing the confusion surrounding governmental definitions of female and male. To those on the Left, including the first transgender member of Congress, this executive order is both extreme and unnecessary. But given the abandonment of norms during the Biden administration, it is warranted.
Among other line items, the order states the following: “’Female’ means a person belonging, at conception, to the sex that produces the large reproductive cell. ‘Male’ means a person belonging, at conception, to the sex that produces the small reproductive cell.”
Writer Jessica Valenti was aghast at the “hidden” declaration included in those lines. On X, she posted, “The Trump administration snuck fetal personhood into their anti-trans executive order.” Her complaint? The use of the phrase “at conception.” Valenti is a feminist writer who runs a Substack called “Abortion, Every Day.” Considering her entire brand is wrapped around the killing of the unborn in the womb, it’s no surprise she’s shocked to see such an anodyne expression of biological reality. This is how far both the pro-trans and pro-choice delusions have taken people.
The abortion-supporting Left has been in a spiral ever since the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision was handed down in June 2022. Overturning Roe v. Wade remains a major blow to the abortion landscape across the country. In the immediate aftermath, the Democratic Party was emboldened in the midterm elections. Democrats and abortion proponents have had some victories since Dobbs. But the ultimate test was the 2024 presidency.
The Harris-Walz campaign was largely about abortion and how a Trump presidency would plunge women into a state of reproductive oppression. Fearmongering was the default setting for then-Vice President Kamala Harris, her team, and even regular supporters. Time and again, we were told Trump had taken away women’s rights through his Supreme Court nominations and would make things even worse in a second term. But the calculation backfired, and these warnings of a bleak future in which women have no control over their bodies fell on deaf ears.
Trump isn’t enacting anything outrageous. If anything, his executive order concerning gender, which includes a mention of fetal personhood, is as fundamental as it can get. The root of Valenti’s opposition to it is her own abortion extremism. Her criticism of the executive order just serves to highlight her backward morality. She is upset that the new administration promotes the biological truth concerning the beginning of a unique human life.

Around the country, “17 states have established fetal personhood by law or judicial decision to apply to criminal law or both criminal and civil laws,” according to Pregnancy Justice. The abortion industry sees this as a major affront to its goal of destroying more unborn lives. The idea of fetal personhood is devastating to its bottom line.
Former President Joe Biden and his administration are the real culprits. The last four years have been about appeasing leftist sensibilities. Now that Trump is back in office, dialing back to a regular standard is a noticeable shift. The country has been forced to accept gender delusion at the highest levels of government. Trump’s executive order rights this wrong. People on the Left may oppose the clarifications as extreme or dismissive. Others may think there are more important things to tackle first. But it does matter how our leaders officially define female, male, and our unique origins. There is no better launching point.
