Former President Donald Trump congratulated Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) for what he called a "BIG WIN."
The victory in question was the Alabama Republican's refusal to back down from his hold on all United States military promotions and appointments. The first individual nominations were approved on Thursday after Senate Democrats had previously refused to put any candidates through to a vote. Tuberville, and Trump himself, saw the approvals as the Democrats backing down. The former president praised Tuberville and used the occasion to bash Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY).

"BIG WIN FOR TOMMY," Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.
"Unlike McConnell and his group of automatic Democrat YES VOTES, Tommy T is willing to take on the Radical Left Fascists & Thugs that are destroying our Country. What a difference!"
The Senate voted 96 to 0 to confirm Gen. Eric Smith as the next Marine Corps commandant, and Tuberville voted in favor. The Alabama Republican had requested previously that Democrats bring individual candidates to a vote, which he wasn't opposed to.
Despite criticism from the Biden administration and Democrats that the block could hurt national security, Tuberville has largely been supported by his Republican colleagues. Along with Trump, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) has also expressed his support.

“What the Defense Department is doing is outside the law. They are breaking, violating the law by funding abortion tourism with tax dollars,” DeSantis remarked during the Faith and Freedom Coalition's annual fall banquet. “I can tell you when I'm president on day one, that policy goes into the trash can where it belongs.”
The Pentagon itself has stepped in in an attempt to end the blockade, beginning a media blitz earlier this month against Tuberville.
