Former President Donald Trump took to social media Wednesday morning to slam President Joe Biden's United Nations General Assembly address, in which Biden reiterated his push for global leaders to support Ukraine in its battle against Russia.
"I ask you this: If we abandon the core principles of the United States to appease an aggressor, can any member state in this body feel confident that they are protected?” Biden said on Tuesday as he spoke to the U.N. "If we allow Ukraine to be carved up, is the independence of any nation secure? I respectfully suggest the answer is no."
AS GOP WRESTLES WITH SPENDING DEAL, WILL HOUSE DEMOCRATS COME TO THEIR AID?
It appears that Trump was not convinced. "If I would have made that speech yesterday at the United Nations, for all of the World to see, including the HORRENDOUS delivery, I would have been run out of politics!" the former president wrote on Truth Social, his social media platform, on Wednesday. "An EMBARRASSMENT to our Country."
His comments follow previous posts he made early Wednesday slamming Biden's address. Trump claimed the United States has aided Ukraine disproportionately compared to other nations. "Our Country has spent almost 200 Billion Dollars more than the countries of Europe in fighting go Ukraine. Does anybody think this is fair and reasonable? Europe should equalize before we go forward!" he wrote.
"Biden just finished his surrender (“speech”) at the United Nations, and nobody, despite all we give them, showed up. No respect for America any longer!" Trump also posted on Tuesday.
Trump's criticism comes as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is set to visit Washington, D.C., this week and continue his appeal for more American aid, and as some House Republican lawmakers have expressed their lack of appetite for continuing American financial and military support of Ukraine. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), a staunch supporter of U.S. assistance to Ukraine, will meet with Zelenskyy, although it is unclear whether House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) will also meet with the Ukrainian leader.

The Biden administration asked Congress for an additional $24 billion in humanitarian support for Ukraine last month. But as Congress barrels toward a likely shutdown if it can't pass a continuing resolution or the 12 appropriation bills needed to fund the government before Sept. 30, the financial request for Ukraine hangs in limbo.
Trump, the current GOP 2024 presidential front-runner, has claimed he would end the war between Russia and Ukraine if he was in office and has publicly stated he is not in support of additional Ukraine funding.
