President-elect Donald Trump has named his White House counsel — for a second time since his Nov. 5 election victory.
On Nov. 12, Trump named William Joseph McGinley as White House counsel, but on Wednesday, he announced that David Warrington would get the top job instead, with McGinley serving as counsel to the Department of Government Efficiency.
“Dave has represented me well as my personal attorney, and as General Counsel for my Presidential Campaign,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post. “He is an esteemed lawyer and Conservative leader.”
As to McGinley, Trump said DOGE is something the attorney is “very passionate about,” writing that he will work with Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy to “rebuild a U.S. Government that truly serves the people.”
Warrington has defended many of the Jan. 6 Capitol riot defendants, many of whom are hoping to receive a pardon once Trump retakes office, and represented Trump when the Colorado Supreme Court attempted to remove him from the state’s ballots.

Warrington also served as general counsel to the Trump campaign and the general counsel for Ron Paul’s 2012 presidential run.
