Presidential candidate Donald Trump mocked President Joe Biden‘s campaign strategy to call him a threat to democracy.
Trump appeared for an interview with Fox and Friends Weekend that aired Sunday as his first television interview since he received a guilty verdict in Manhattan court. On Thursday, a jury ruled the former president was guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business records. Trump referred to the court proceedings as a “weaponization” tactic to thwart his campaign.
“Now I think I’m leading over this guy that can’t put two sentences together, that’s destroying our country. Look, he’s the worst president in the history of this country, and he’s a danger to the country,” Trump said of Biden. “And, you know, they have misinformation. ‘Donald Trump is a threat to democracy.’ It’s just words. He doesn’t even know what it means, but it’s like their slogan: I’m a ‘threat to democracy.’ I’m the opposite. They’re the threat to democracy.”
Even though Trump lost his trial, it has correlated with an increase in financial support for the former president and 2024 Republican presidential front-runner. The Trump campaign raised $1.5 million after the first day in court and then doubled that amount three days later, with more donations adding up to $76 million raised in April alone. Within the first 24 hours following the verdict, Trump’s campaign raised $52.8 million.

Trump himself has not shown any signs of stopping his 2024 campaign. Instead, he promised supporters outside of the courthouse that he is still “fighting for our country.”
Judge Juan Merchan is scheduled to sentence Trump on July 11, right before the Republican National Convention, at which the former president is presumed to be named the party’s presidential nominee.
