Former President Donald Trump is holding onto a sizable lead over the Republican presidential primary field despite being federally indicted earlier this month on charges related to his alleged mishandling of classified documents.
An NBC News poll conducted June 16-20 shows Trump as 51% of voter's first choice candidate, significantly ahead of Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), who is sitting at 22%, and the rest of the 2024 GOP candidates who are polling in the single digits.

This survey appears to show support for Trump has not wavered, despite some recent polls showing he may be losing ground among the GOP field. Trump was indicted for a second time, with the latest indictment being on federal charges related to classified documents, earlier this month. He pleaded not guilty to the charges in a federal courthouse in Miami, Florida.
In the overall polling average compiled by RealClearPolitics, Trump leads the GOP presidential field, with DeSantis in second place, while the rest of the field is far behind the two Florida men. The first Republican primary debate is scheduled for Aug. 23 in Milwaukee and is set to be broadcast on Fox News.
