A bipartisan House voted to table an impeachment effort by Rep. Al Green (D-TX) on Tuesday, a blow to the Democrat’s efforts after offering up various impeachment articles against President Donald Trump in the last few months.

The House voted 344 to 79, with 128 Democrats joining with all Republicans who voted. The vote effectively kills Green’s effort to launch an impeachment inquiry.

Many Democrats, including those in leadership, have brushed off their caucus members’ attempts for an impeachment inquiry as a waste of time that will go nowhere. House Democrats have twice impeached Trump during his first term, only for him to be acquitted by the Senate.

Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-MI) also planned for a vote on his impeachment resolution, but pulled the vote after pressure from leadership and once it became clear he would not have his caucus’s support.

Green’s resolution, which he offered Tuesday, calls for an impeachment inquiry due to Trump’s authorization of the bombing of three nuclear sites in Iran.

“Donald J. Trump has abused the powers of the presidency in a manner contrary to his trust as president [and] has become a threat to American democracy,” Green said in a floor speech prior to the vote, accusing Trump of bypassing the Constitution by neglecting to seek congressional approval.

The White House earlier Tuesday criticized Green’s fourth impeachment attempt.

“President Trump was able to quickly accomplish what no other President has been able to achieve – thanks to his ‘peace through strength’ leadership, Iran’s nuclear program has been obliterated and a ceasefire has been agreed to,” White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers said. “Eliminating the prospect of nuclear war is a non-partisan and unifying accomplishment that everyone should celebrate as a historic moment for the United States, the Middle East, and the entire world.”

Green, who made waves for waving his cane and yelling at Trump during the president’s speech to Congress earlier this year, isn’t the only Democrat saying Trump should be impeached yet again.  Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Sean Casten (D-IL) have suggested the president’s decision to bomb Iranian nuclear facilities unconstitutionally circumvented Congress and constitutes grounds for impeachment.

The president announced that Iran and Israel would enter into a ceasefire on Monday, but the situation remains fragile as of Tuesday.

House and Senate lawmakers were expected to get a briefing on Tuesday afternoon, but that has been delayed to allow for Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Secretary of State Marco Rubio to attend.
