Former President Donald Trump pushed back on former Wyoming Republican Rep. Liz Cheney's claims that former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) visited him at Mar-a-Lago in January 2021 because the former president was "depressed" and "not eating."

Cheney claimed in her book Oath and Honor that McCarthy had told him that he would be visiting Trump shortly after he left the White House because of the former president's dismay over the 2020 election results. Trump, in a post on Truth Social early Monday morning, disputed the claims and said that after the election "it was not that I was not eating, it was that I was eating too much."

GAVIN NEWSOM MOVES TOWARD THE MIDDLE AS WHITE HOUSE RUMORS PERSIST

"Crazy Liz Cheney, who suffers from Trump Derangement Syndrome at a level rarely seen before, writes in her boring new book that Keven McCarthy said he came to Mar-a-Lago after the RIGGED election because, 'the former president was depressed and not eating.' That statement is not true. I was not depressed, I WAS ANGRY, and it was not that I was not eating, it was that I was eating too much," he said.

"But that’s not why Keven McCarthy was there. He was at Mar-a-Lago to get my support, and to bring the Republican Party together - Only good intentions. Liz Cheney, on the other hand, went on to lose her seat in Congress by the largest margin for a sitting Congressperson in the history of the U.S. She then worked with others on the J6 Committee to delete and destroy the evidence and findings of the committee," he continued.

Cheney has been a vocal critic of the former president and has used much of her forthcoming book to bash Trump, according to excerpts given to various outlets.

The former congresswoman had taken issue with Trump's insistence that the 2020 election was "stolen" and accused him of orchestrating the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021.

Cheney lost her seat in 2022 after losing to Republican challenger Harriet Hageman by nearly 40 points in the GOP primary.
