Former President Donald Trump appeared to cast doubt about whether he will participate in the GOP debates.

"I see that everybody is talking about the Republican Debates, but nobody got my approval, or the approval of the Trump Campaign, before announcing them. When you’re leading by seemingly insurmountable numbers, and you have hostile Networks with angry, TRUMP & MAGA-hating anchors asking the 'questions,' why subject yourself to being libeled and abused?" Trump wrote on Truth Social.

RNC TO HOST SECOND GOP PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE IN CALIFORNIA

The Republican National Committee announced the first primary debate will take place in Milwaukee in August and will be hosted by Fox News. The RNC also announced the second debate will take place at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, but the exact date and moderator have not been specified.

"Also, the Second Debate is being held at the Reagan Library, the Chairman of which is, amazingly, Fred Ryan, Publisher of The Washington Post. NO!" Trump added.

RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel has repeatedly warned candidates that they must pledge support for the nominee if they are to be eligible for the debates, something some aspirants, such as former Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R-AR), have disputed. Trump has also been noncommittal about the pledge — at least publicly, as he was in 2016.

Trump mused about skipping GOP debates during the 2016 GOP primary cycle. He boycotted a debate in Iowa before later losing the caucuses. He returned to the next debate.

During the 2020 general election, Trump skipped the second scheduled debate against then-candidate Joe Biden amid concerns about the COVID-19 rules and the moderator.

Trump remains the clear GOP front-runner, trouncing his nearest hypothetical rival, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), by 29 percentage points in the latest RealClearPolitics polling aggregate.

The Washington Examiner contacted an RNC spokesperson for comment.
